Effect of Cultivar , Sowing Media , Seed Size and Gibberellin Treatment on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Cyclamen persicum Mill

Abstract
Experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of cultivars, sowing media, seed sizes, and GA©ý treatment on seed germination and seedling growth of Cyclamen persicum Mill. The results are summarized as follows:
1. Seed germination of cyclamen was markedly influenced by cultivars. `White TAS¢¥ showed faster and better seed germination than `Ruffled Brilliant¢¥.
2. Percentages of seed germination were not much influenced by the sowing media even though the best seedling growth was obtained with Finland peatmoss in both cultivars tested. No seed germination was obtained with strongly acidic Canadian peatmoss.
3. Percentages of seed germination were not much influenced by seed sizes in `White TAS¢¥. However, large or medium-large seeds showed higher percentages of seed germination and seedling growth than medium-small or small seeds in `Ruflied Brilliant¢¥.
4. GA©ý treatment had more pronounced influence on the seed germination of `White TAS¢¥ than that of `Ruffled Brilliant¢¥. Seed germination rates were either increased by low concentration of GA©ý or decreased by high concentration of GA©ý.
